COMPANY History

1950:  Wisconsin Steel & Tube was founded by Leo J. Kappel in Milwaukee, WI.  At that time, he was the only employee and operated the business out of his home.

1952:  Wisconsin Steel & Tube becomes incorporated. Leo moves the business out of his home and into a small, rented building in Milwaukee. We are the only locally owned and operated steel service center in the area.

1962:  Due to tremendous growth, Wisconsin Steel & Tube Corporation re-locates to a larger facility at 1555 N. Mayfair Road in Milwaukee. We are located in the same location today.

1968, 1973, 1996: Additions were made to the warehouse to expand our storage capacity.  

1996:  Michael F. Poehlmann was named President

2000: Wisconsin Steel & Tube Corporation makes the decision to pursue an ISO certification.

2000:  Final warehouse addition is completed giving us a total of 150,000 square feet of storage, allowing us to store our entire steel inventory inside the facility.

2001:  We successfully complete and were awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certification.

2005: Joseph Teich was named Vice President.

2007: Craig Lancourt was named General Manager.

2009: Michael F. Poehlmann retired and Joseph Teich was named President.

2010: Craig Lancourt retired and Juerg Heyn was named General Manager.

Today:  Our staff consists of 15 office and 40 shop employees and 9 full time truck drivers.

General Information

Wisconsin Steel and Tube Corporation is a customer focused, full line steel service center. We serve OEMs, fabricators, machine and job shops throughout Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.

We are a privately held, independently owned, non-union steel service center. We inventory over 5,000 different sizes and grades of cold finish steel bars, tubes and pipe products. These items are available for your immediate requirements.

We also specialize in customized stocking programs commonly referred to as KAN-BANs, J.I.T., or Stock and Release Blankets. These programs are tailored to your specific needs and can help reduce your total costs by offering shorter lead-times with faster deliveries, protected inventory and pricing.
