Stainless bar is well suited for structural applications where strength, toughness and excellent corrosion resistance is required. In addition, some alloys provide high temperature resistance. It is easy to fabricate, machine, stamp and weld. Stainless bar can have a dull gray mill finish or smooth machined finish. Description: 303 is β€œ18-8” chromium-nickel stainless steel modified by the addition of selenium or sulfur, as well as phosphorus, to improve machinability and non-seizing properties. It is the most readily machinable of all the chromium-nickel grades and has good corrosion resistance. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and not hardenable by heat treatment. Tensile strength and hardness can be increased by cold working. It is manufactured by the electric-furnace process and meets the requirements of the aircraft industry.
Application: Used almost exclusively for parts requiring machining, grinding, or polishing where good corrosion resistance is also required, it’s non-seizing and non-galling properties make it ideal for moving parts. Being an austenitic steel, it is useful where low magnetic permeability is desired.
304/304L1/4" to 3" Hexagon10/12' RL
Description: 304 / 304L stainless steel bar is easy to machine and stamp and can be welded. It exhibits high strength and toughness, high corrosion resistance and a smooth surface that is easily cleaned and sanitized. 304L has reduced weldability due to an increased level of carbon in the alloy. 304 stainless bar is used for components and parts in highly corrosive, high temperature and sanitary environments. It is an economic, high performing material.
Application: 304 / 304L bar is used to manufacture: Structural supports, braces, and framework for tanks, equipment and machinery; Supports for housings, enclosures and cabinets; Shafts and rods for axles in motors and engines; Engines and motor components; Components for food processing equipment and medical devices.
316/316L1/4" to 3" Hexagon10/12' RL
Description: 316 / 316L are used for products that require very high corrosion protection. Higher levels of molybdenum and nickel increase corrosion and surface pitting resistance compared to 304 alloys. It exhibits the same high strength, toughness and workability as 304 alloys.
Application: 316/316L is used for applications such as: chemical processing industry for tank and equipment supports and components for highly corrosive materials such as sulfuric acids; marine and salt water marine industries for housings, enclosures, cabinets, fittings and components; power generation industry for engine and motor shafts, rods and axles; food service industry for equipment frames, braces and components; medical device industry for supports, frames, braces and components.
